I have a 3 IDE Naslite+ v1.1 system in a 286 HP. Disks 1 and 2 have worked flawlessly over time. Disk 4 I added later. It works for a while then I loose the mount (config) and I am required to re-config and loose all of the data. This has happened 3 times in six months. The other disks, 1 and 2 are perfect. Disk 3 is CD rom. Thanks for your help Max

Hi Max,

Firstly, are you sure you are running NASLite on a 286? ;-)

When NASLite boots, it probes the hardware for installed disks and tries to mount each disk it finds. The problem that you are describing is definitely not a NASLite configuration problem but rather a hardware problem. Can you describe step by step what you are doing and what happens? Also, please post a copy of the SYS Log Info page, preferably 6 minutes after Disk-4 failure.

Hi
I have just setup my first NAS box via USB on the following build
MainBoard AZ11EA
AMD 700
256Mb
All okay until day 3 when I experienced the loss of Disk 4 and had to remount it.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. I agree it could be a hardware problem. I am unable to provide the failure log since I have remounted the disk and has been running fine for a week. I did however loose the previous data. I am cetain I am running a 286 box with 64 KB ram. It works very well. By the way I would like to upgrade to the new version. I have lost my dawnload instructions. How can I do this? Thanks JC

That That would really impress me ;-)

I don’t think that’s case though. A 286 with 64K hardly has the ability to run NASlite. I’d assume that the “286” is a model number of some sort and not related to the CPU type. And also I’d assume that you mean 64M rather than 64K.

Anyway, make sure the power supply is in good order and does not fluctuate causing system brownout. That may cause drive problems. Also, check the cabling and jumpers.

Either way, it’s a hardware issue…

All okay until day 3 when I experienced the loss of Disk 4 and had to remount it.

I'm confused strider,
Looking at your logs, it appears that Disk-4 never mounts. I'd take a serious look at the BIOS, drive jumpers, cable connections, etc. Errors such as the "DriveReady SeekComplete Error " that you see towards the end are usually caused by timeouts (read that as the disk doesn't respond).

It also appears that you are booting from an USB Iomega ZIP. I think that I need to give that a try myself ;-)

Hi Tony
Yes I am booting from a USB Zip Drive, this appears to be very successful and config saves to disk okay.
All drives are jumpered correctly and cabled correctly, Bios detectes drives fast and correctly on every boot, it just appears to fail to detect and mount occasionly the rest of the time it detects and runs up fine.
The system comprises of a AMD 700 ThunderBird on a Mainboard AZ11EA with 256Mb.
Obviously I am reluctant to save any data to this drive until it appears stable, therefore any input would be gratefully accepted.

The problem is BIOS settings, secondary IDE, Cabling/connections or the drive itself. What i'd do is make sure that the secondary IDE IRQ is set to 15. All drives are disabled in the BIOS and the cable is in fact good.

Intermittent operation is usually caused by hardware. It is possible that the board you are using has a flaky secondary IDE. It is not a driver issue since the primary IDE is working fine.
