NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hi all,

Thanks to an exploding light bulb my electrics tripped out while copy data from a Windows machine to a NASLite+ SMB box.

The NAS+ box is a PIII with 2 hard drives and 256MB ram. Drive 1 (20GB) mounts and is functioning OK. Drive 2 (85GB), despite several reboots, refuses to mount.

Any suggestions for recovery?

I had a similar issue, turns out that after @ 20 minutes (is 1 of 4 250G drives) the drive came online. When an outage occours and the systems comes back up it goes through diagnostics to make certain the drive & filesystem are intact.

Depending on the size of your drive I would suggest starting the system and walking away for a time and see if it comes back online after diags.

Burnt a Linux rescue CD from: http://www.sysresccd.org/

Booted from this cd and ran e2fsck

Main problem is that I have not used Linux command line for some time and I was stupidly specifying the wrong device name. Found the correct command from another post on these forums. Once I used the correct command for my drive i.e. e2fsck -y /dev/hdb1 the problem was quickly fixed.

Looking through the forums and seeing similar disk inconsistency problems, maybe a sticky with basic instructions for using a Linux rescue util (others are available) and e2fsck might be useful.

I had a similar thing happen on my drive...I need the correct syntax as I am not at all a Linux person...

I think it is e2fsck_-y_/dev/hda1 (drive 1)
e2fsck_-y_/dev/hdb2 (drive 2)


I have 200GBs of DVDs that I do not want to lose. When I reboot the system it loads the drive but I cannot see any data.

Please help!!!

The next release of NASLite+ will include the ability to manually check a filesystem. That will allow the admin to correct problems that can't be resolved automatically. A small number of people have reported the problem, so it is something that needs to be addressed.

The next release of NASLite+ is primarily a service release and will include the ability to disable SMART, the ability to force a manual filesystem check, a number of admin menu enhancements as well as other general code cleanup.

There is still a number of items that need to be completed before it is available for download, but I think that if all goes well, it should be available within the next couple of weeks.

Has the filesystem check been included in NasLite floppy DL or is it only available in the + & suite versions?

NASLite+ v1.2 only (stand-alone & suite). Chenges to USB version 1.1 are pending. We expect a release sometime in september.
