NASLite Network Attached Storage

I am having a small problem with the NASLite-2 Storage configuration.

My system is using a single IDE drive as the system drive, and has 2 1 Terabyte SATA drives for the "real" storage.

I have been able to get everything working, including the licensing and unlocking. The problem now is that, despite the fact that my machine's BIOS recognizes that the SATAs are there, NASLite doesn't see them at all. It does see my system disk, and I can share it on my network. My SATAs, however, are completely invisible.

This NAS is supposed to be able to work with SATA drives. Why isn't it seeing mine???

Take a look at the hardware ref and make sure your sata controller is supported. Naslite does work with sata drives just fine.

Comparison with your hardware list is going to be somewhat difficult.

The SATA controller is built into the CPU board I am using. The specifications given for the board -- both in the manual and on their website -- do not tell what chipset the SATA drivers are based on.

The board is an ASUS board, so I can guess that it is using a NVIDIA chipset. NVIDIA chipsets are listed in the Hardware manual as being supported. Not that it matters, because the board could well be using a new kind of NVIDIA hardware that your system is not equipped to handle.

But even assuming that my guess is wrong, it generally isn't necessary for CPU makers to specify which SATA hardware they are using. This is because it usually isn't something tht people have to worry about. Every major operating system in existence is capable of using SATA drives without having to worry about what hardware is driving them. They use the generic drivers that talk SATA without concern for the specific hardware being used. So why is NASLite so particular???

In fact, from my point of view this is a pretty major inadequacy in this software: the need to worry about the kinds of hardware you are using. I purchased a perfectly good ASUS CPU board and SATAs specifically so that I could put on this NAS. I can easily get a good Linux distribution for free and it will install and work without problems. Yet your software is so brittle that it cannot handle hardware that poorly implemented Linux distributions handle without problems!

I already had to buy a LAN card because this system didn't support the on- board LAN -- and now you are suggesting that perfectly good on- board SATA hardware may not work???

I may well be asking for my money back...

Post your syslog so we can see what hardware is or isn't being rendered.

Likely your issue has to due with the BIOS settings and not NASLite. I would suggest that you look there first and see if you can get NL to see the SATA interface by making changes there.
