Hi,

Anyone know of an FTP Server program that will allow you to use network shares? I've got a NL box that I need to access from remote locations and since there is no security in NL for FTP access I setup a junker system to install an FTP server onto but none of the one's I've tried sofar will work with network shares. I've already tried Filezilla FTP server, Cerberus FTP Server, WinFTP Server, and a few others. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know NL is not designed to have user security, but what about adding the ability to use the console login info as a login for FTP and HTTP access? You would only have 1 user, but this would make NL so much more versatile. Just a thought.

Thanks,
Grinch843.....

We just map our ftp server to a file server share. then you'll just have to give all your users access to the mapped drive. this is a perfect example of when to use NAslite.

My problem is that I want to get my LSI Megaraid 4i card to show up in NASlite so I can do a raid 5 with all of my drives.

What FTP server software are you using?

Its Called Serv-U and its very stable and easy to use. We have it installed on an Older Windows 2000 PC then all of our files are stored on a Mapped drive. We're an agricultural lab so we put our results on the ftp server and programmers wrote some software that connects to it and downloads the customers data. try http://www.rhinosoft.com

Yeah, tried that and couldn't get it to see my mapped drive, went back and tried again and realized that I have to use the UNC name for it to work, runs like a champ now. Don't like the interface for v7, gotta go thru my old software and try to find an older version.

We have version 6.0 and we just use the actual drive letter and path of the mapped drive which seems to work. Do you have the file server shared and mapped to the FTP Server??

I also have a free program on A linux server called proFTPd and it works just as well but you cant always use linux and it doesnt have the options that serv-u has.

With v7 the only way I could get it to work was with the UNC, I could never get the mapped drive to be accepted in the config, I could set it up in the Directory Access list, but couldn't put it in the Virtual Paths list, go figure. Anyway, I found my copy of 6.4 and I'am installing that now. I was thinking of upgrading to v7, but after playing with it a little I really didn't like the new interface and it seems alot slower then the old versions.

I use the Gene 6 FTP Server with SSL Explicit to enable access to my UK Naslite from france via 'no-ip' without problems. The interface is 128 bit encrypted. Works perfectly and allows playing from my music files, data storage and access. For the NL, the actual path entered from my home domain is simply :- Naslite2\\Disk-0\ etc. The ftp client is SmartFTP using FTPS; up and running for a year or so. I also use an anonymous account for easy external access from browsers for 'public' information diary/ notes/messages, when travelling.
