I think it is a bad boot floppy.
I experienced this error and the "RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 803" error experienced by Chibu in the thread
"Instilation" while trying to create a boot floppy using RAWwrite from Windows XP.
I was able to download the image and create a valid boot disk using a Knoppix 3.3 bootable CD. I wasn't initially able to see the drive to configure it until I switched it from cable select to master - another post indicated that cable select is a problem.
Now I'm waiting for the "Checking for bad blocks" to finish - I started configuring the disk yesterday(!). I guess there is a reason why my Dell Dimension XPS Pro200n hasn't been in use for a few years....
