I am getting my brother into NL system (using my old box). He want's to put it in another building 30-40 feet away.. but can not use it with cable system. We can not get a cable to the building for the landowner. Is there anyone who have tried this using wireless? He has clear space to the building. Would it work attaching a wireless router to the NL and fire it up? Any good hints for doing a setup like this? His house and the building has both windows in front of each other so it is just the glass and distance to consider. He will use it for backup and media.

What router would be great for this kind of setup and will it actually work?

Thanks
Soren

Not that I really understand the reason for doing this but there is no reason for it not to work. What you need to make this work reasonably well is a pair of wireless N routers of the same maker, revision number and firmware. The last part is to minimize any possible issues that could creep into the mix. A pair of flat panel antennas pointed at each other with the router right there. Do not use extension coax as the loss at the frequencies we are talking about are MASSIVE for even short distances. 18 inches maximum from connector on the router to the antenna.

Set them up in bridge mode on the bench with 2 computers first making sure you have the network setup properly. If you do it this way they should work out of the gate. I am not a wireless fan and so I can't offer you much on the fine detail of the setup. Sorry.

Mike
