Don't worry, I'm not ripping non-owned DVDs
I'm a NASlite newbie.
I'm a newbie to XBMC as well.
I'm looking to build myself a server in which to stream movies from.
What I have right now is
- AMD 1.2 Ghz (alittle powerful for a server, but it is sitting there with no HD or anything, it's not being used).
- 512 Megs of RAM
- Asus A7A266
What I need to do is pick up a new case, new powersupply and HD
I figure the powersupply would be more than accomodating with a 300 Watt (it would probably be able to be lower, but I am looking at futureproofing it for expansion).
The board has 5 PCI slots and 2 Ultra DMA/100
There are no SATAs on the machine.
Now, here is where it gets fun
What I would like to do is pick up a SATA2 drive and throw it into the machine. This allows me to use the drive later on in another machine should something catastrophic happen to this hardware. This will probably
be a Seagate 7200.10 320G or higher.
1. I am not currently looking at anything RAID, since right now, I will only have 1 drive. However, later on, I may add a second drive, do I need to use RAID in this setup or can I still have double drives, knowing that I plan on using XBMC?
2. What is a cheap, yet reliable PCI to SATA card, which will allow me to do some expansion of hard-drives, yet allow it to work with XBMC.
