I am aware this has been done to death in the forums but I have a question that I can't find the answer to.

I have succesfully ftp'd two high def movies to my Naslite+ box one is 9gb the other nearly 10gb and they are the individual file. If I browse to the movies using the normal windows route via the mapped drive which I think uses SMB they appear as small files 560mb and 1.5 gb. If I browse to them using NFS they appear full size. So my question is this; can NASlite+ only see files of 4gb or less using SMB?

If this is the case then my idea of streaming high def movies from the server will need to be re though out.

Any ideas

The problem you are seeing is caused by the same issues that prevents SMB from handling files above 4G. The implementation of SMB used in NASLite was originally designed to handle a 32bit filesystem (since it’s running on a 32bit machine). The limit of such is 2G, as illustrated by FAT32 and alike. In a 32bit operating system, compiling with a 64bit offset is usually required to achieve the necessary LFS capabilities. That approach, obviously improves NASLite’s SMB support to a max of 4G.

Wilbur,

Question for you: even though you say that SMB reports the file sizes as 560Mb and 1.5GB can you view the movies or do they stop prematurely?

Here is why I ask. I believe that the 9Gb file is reporting as 560Mb. Is that correct? If so, then the 10Gb file must be reporting as 1.5Gb. I think you're seeing what I described in another post. The fact that SMB can only report up to 3.99Gb or the remainder of any file over that size. So, for example, take your 9Gb file. SMB reports the file size as 9Gb - 3.99Gb - 3.99Gb = 560Mb.

For the 10Gb file SMB would report 10Gb - 3.99Gb - 3.99Gb = 1.5Gb.

The only question remaining is how much of the file do you view on playback? All or part (sorry if you answered this already)

sanmaster, to the best of my knowledge, I think that your observation is correct.

Tony,

Wilbur is posting similar questions in two different forums. I don't know the answer to his other question regarding why he can only view 600Mb of his 9Gb file.

Do you have any clues? I know other posters are streaming with no problems from their NAS boxes so I'm not sure why Wilbur can't do the same. Is it the method he's using to view the file?

Thanks :D

I'm going to stay in this forum with this one purely because I'm using NASlite+.
Sanmaster if I try to play the movie, I'm using WMP10, it just plays the small amount showing on the SMB drive. If vers 2 is close I think I'll give my brain a rest and wait

Thanks again for your help.

I'll try playing it via NFS again, maybe after a reboot with the HTPC I will get a better connection.

Wilbur,

You're Welcome and Good luck!

PS. I, too, can't wait for NASLite+ v2.x
