I had a similar problem, so heres the things I did.
1) Initially, I couldn't even get the thing to boot, searching the forums I found that others had had the same problem. I had used a download manager and I think that it had corrupted the data in some way, so a new download and burn later things began booting.
2) I ensured that I read the (de)structions a couple of times and had them up on my laptop whilst carrying on with the of the installation.
3) As already mentioned, keep the floppy out til you're saving final settings.
4) Got to login screen, Great! login:admin password:nas. Incorrect login, Boo! Did the old: type again, check caps, type with shift held down, try login: admin password:password, nothing, admin, server etc... no luck.
Tried new keyboard, no luck. Searched posts, found floppy drive problem. I thought, no, cant be, my floppy is attatched, I can see it! Then looked even closer, at some point, I stole the floppy connector for another pc. cannabalised other pc, plugged in, rebooted and in half hour I had a fully working nas box!
Moral of the story: check everything, even if you think its set up properly!
Good luck, you'll be up and running soon, I'm sure
