Hi All

Before I mention my problems, I'd just like to say that I think this software is excellent. The whole family is accessing my music collection, the video's will be moved at the weekend.

I just have a few niggles :D

On my XP Pro machine, I do a daily backup of the My Documents folder, this includes all my Opera mail files.

Once I've done this, to a seperate hard disk, I then try to copy the resulting file to the NAS box. When the transfer starts, it gives an eta of 54 minutes (well, it is a big file).

About 5 minutes into the transfer, I get the following error message in XP:

Cannot Copy My Documents: The specified network name is no longer available.

Since updating my router's firmware, I have had a couple of glitches, but nothing shows up during this transfer. When I access the NAS box to check the file, the transfer seems to have worked!! The file is complete and will restore to XP.

Second query - Will a wifi bridge convert my NAS box to wireless? The bloody box is too noisy, and I want to hide it somewhere where burglars would not find it.

Network name errors are to do with NetBIOS name resolution.

The easiest way to get around this is to map the drive using only its IP address

i.e.

\\192.168.1.2\

or whatever IP you gave it.

As for the bridge, yes if it is a true bridge. Unfortubately I have had bad experiences with WiFi bridges not really actually as true bridges. YMMV with brand and calibre of device.

Thanks for the help.

It's just done it again, I'll try to map to IP over the weekend.

I've heard that a lot of so-called bridges are actually switches, I'd better be careful.

Mind you, we're sorting through the old pc systems at work next week, I might keep an eye out for a fanless old workhorse :D
