At some point I lost access to my NASLite box.

I can't ping the router from NASLite - network unreachable
Network status says no database found

I can't ping NASlite from my computer

I installed a new hard drive and installed naslite fresh - still no joy, same problems

My router address is set to 192.168.1.1
My NAS address is set to 192.168.1.10 also tried .100
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

When I plug in the ethernet cable to the onboard NIC i get a green light after 10 sec

I have unplugged the gigabyte nic that also used to work

I have tried FIRST and LAST

I have doublechecked the workgroup name

I am at the end of my rope

I have many gig of family pictures and music on a (disconnected) raid array that I would hate to lose.

But NASlite just won't work :(

I have searched the forum and tried all the suggestions that I could find.

your data is likely still there as long as you didn't do a stupid and reformat the drive or your drive hasn't failed.

Put in a new NIC and give it a go again.

I booted Ubuntu from a CD and was able to access the network on that machine. I'm installing Ubuntu now on the fresh drive. Then I plan to plug in the old disk 0 and raid array with naslite and data. Anyone know if I will be able to get to my data using Ubuntu?

The first thing you need to realise is naslite boots readonly so it does not change. Its the same as the first time you ran it. Once you get through that, then you can focus on the hardware that is probably causing your headache. The data on the drives is fine as long as you did not panic and start messing with them. Did you reset the bios? That would be step one for me. Can you see the drives with ubuntu? You don't have to install it to see available disks on that box, just boot the cd live and you should be able to mount and browse the drives.

I did reset the bios back to default. One thing I noticed is that when I tried to view network history, I get an eth0 not found. That's with onboard nic enabled and tried both first and last in naslite setup.

then I re-installed nic and tried first and last with onboard nic disabled. network history gives 0s now, instead of "not found". I can't ping the router, nor 127.0.0.1 in any configuration.

I left a message on the "live" support and never heard back. At this point my goal is to get the data off the NAS2 and raid drives and abandon NASLite (regrettably). It seems that there are lots of issues with network connectivity and no real way to diagnose and troubleshoot. The NASLite network messages advise running shell commands to set up the network, which can't be done with NASlite (as far as I can tell).

Allot of on board NICs will not work with NL right now. This is a short coming of the present distro of NL and should finally be fixed with the new release of their 3.X core.

I would advise that you try another NIC as it sounds to me like the Gigabit one you had has failed. I had the exact same issue a few years ago. The lights came on and showed a link, NL saw the card, and everything configured just fine. But no packets were to be had via the NIC. I replaced it with the present NIC, a 3Com 3C985 and it came back on line right away.

Your data is still there since NL uses EXT2 or EXT3, both of which are the default FS of Linux distros. It should be as simple as booting a live distro of say Knoppix or Ubuntu and there it is.
