I recently installed a 3com 3c905c tx NIC to my Naslite 2.06 fileserver, connected it via a WOL cable to my Mobo and activated WOL in the BIOS. The DOS configuration software told me that the NIC WOl function is active but I can't wake my Naslite server (the NIC's LED lights are on).
From my understanding Naslite uses ethtool to set the WOL function, but from other internet discussions regarding this NIC and other Linux systems, it seems to me that this NIC doesn't work with ethtool and the function has to be enabled seperately. (see below, information taken from a ubuntu forum)
" have the same 3c905c card and it works for me now. I had to take the next steps:
1.) Connected network card with mobo with wol cable
2.) Enabled wake on lan in the BIOS
3.) Created a file called "network" in /etc/modprobe.d/
4.) added a line: options 3c59x global_enable_wol=1
5.) reboot
6.) shutdown -h now
7.) Send a magic packet and the server starts...
This works for me, even though ethtool still won't work and gives you the known response! "
Does anybody have the above mentioned NIC and has found a workaround on the problem using WOL with naslite 2.06 or is there any way to add a similar configuaration file to Naslite?
thanks
