I've installed a PCI USB card in a PC which can't boot from USB AND I don't have the right cable to use the onboard USB. The Panasonic Kicker
reports finding the generic card reader I have connected so so far so good!
Problem is that the only cards I have at the moment is a 16Mb (or 64Mb) Xd card or a 64Mb Smartmedia card. Will either of these cards work or do I have to go and find (buy) a CF card? I don't want to buy V2 until I'm sure I have the correct bits to make it work!

I dont have these Cards to test, but i am sure they would work.

To be honest you got all the bits in place and the only way to see if its going to work is to buy V2 and see how you get on.

just remember to make a super floppy.

Looks like it won't boot from anything but CF or Pen. Got a pen drive and
it works fine with the kicker.
