I've had a NASLite box running on my home network for a year or more without any problems but I now find that I can no longer access it from my Toshiba laptop (running XP Pro). If I enter the IP address in the Windows Explorer address bar, this opens up my browser and brings me to the admin page of the NASLite box from where I can get to to Disk-0, but only via the browser. I can also access it as usual in Windows EXplorer from two MacBooks (both running XP) using the address \\NASLite\Disk-0, but when I enter this in Explorer on my Toshiba laptop I get the error message "Windows cannot find \\NASLite\Disk-0" If I drill down through My Network Places I get to <Network Storage (IP:192.168.1.10( (Naslite)> but when I click on this nothing happens. I thought that perhaps Zone Alarm might have been the culprit, but even without it running the problem remains.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what has happened to cause this?

This could be a full error log issue - have you tried rebooting the server and accessing it immediately after boot?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no luck. I rebooted the NAS box and rebooted my computer but still the same situation. I can access the NAS box via Telnet, and via browser, but not via Windows Explorer even though it shows up in My Network Places after the reboot.

Any other ideas, anyone?

Well, it seems the problem lies with DNS resolution on my Toshiba. Using the nbtstat command it was apparent that it couldn't resolve the server by name so I changed the name and rebooted the whole system and everything worked. So I re-mapped the network drive using the new name and all seemed fine. But then I tried to access it again having had my computer shut down and it wouldn't connect. So I tried using the IP address instead of the name, i.e. \\192.168.1.10\Disk-0 and it worked once more. So I re-mapped the network drive once again using the IP address and even on a restart it is still working.

So I guess the problem lies somewhere in my network configuration in my laptop but I'm not going to attempt to work out what as it is in need of a reinstall anyway so I'll hope that will resolve it in due course. But for the moment all seems to be OK.
