The approach which I took was to do away with the processor fan and use passive cooling instead. I fitted a NINJA mini Revision B cooler without the fan. Although it says "mini" on the box, it's a monster so you will need to check that you have space in the case. The other consideration is whether your processor can cope with passive cooling. Mine is an Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz which is not overly hot. The power supply fan (ModXStream Pro 500W) does provide air flow over the passive cooler.
Runs cool and quiet.
