I've recently purchased an VIA NSD7800 for a home server setup.

Now, I've found that machine uses 2 sata controllers. Would anyone know if the hardware of the NSD7800 is supported by NasLite?

The controllers are reportedly the:

VAI VT8251
and
Marvel 81xxx

I have leared that FreeNas currently does not support the Marvel chipset, and I'm hoping that Naslite does to make use of all 8 drives in the machine.

Thanks
PT

There is a release pending on NL based on the 2.6.xx kernel that may support the chipset. You need to go to the home page and hunt around, I think that there is a hardware compatibility list for the new NASLite coming out.

According to this Here

The "found in Linux Kernels: from 2.6.19 release still available on 2.6.31 release"

includes the following:

# vendor: 11ab ("Marvell Technology Group Ltd."), device: 6121 ("88SE6121 SATA II Controller")
# vendor: 11ab ("Marvell Technology Group Ltd."), device: 6145 ("88SE6145 SATA II PCI-E controller")

So, it may already work with this Marvel Sata Controller. I only wish I could confirm it first before possibly purchasing the software.

It's probably not supported in the current release version of NASLite, however it will be supported in the upcoming v2.6.

Something that you need to keep in mind about your search is that you were looking in what appears to be a Linux kernel driver database. If Tony and Ralph were to include drivers for every device in the kernel roll it would be SOOOOOO large as not to be funny. Also, if they included modular device drivers, again the distro would be huge. With luck it will be supported and work well. I think that they put up a reference guide for the supported hardware for the pending release for NL but for the life of me I can't find it right now.
