I'm planning on either replacing my current naslite-m2 box with a better spec'd machine (mainly for the better/additional sata support on the MB and a gigabit network interface) or buying another licence and using both.

Tried to boot the intended replacement from the latest m2 cd image to try things out and it hangs after printing ...

"MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC"
"Kernel panic: IO-APIC + timer doesnt work! pester ...@redhat.com
"In idle task - not syncing"

This happens regardless of booting direct from cd-r or running the installation utility.

Mobo is an Abit AN52 with a dual core AMD something. It has been running ubuntu fine ...

Anyone have any ideas?

As I mentioned in email, this problem usually occurs on multiprocessor machines with a buggy BIOS. The current NASLite kernel does not support multiple CPUs. To suppress the behavior, simply disable APIC by appending "noapic" to the kernel parameters in the syslinux.cfg (isolinux.cfg if booting from CD-ROM).

Here is the isolinux.cfg file where do I put the "noapic"

TIMEOUT 100
PROMPT 1
DEFAULT l
DISPLAY naslite.msg

LABEL l
KERNEL NASLite.01
APPEND rw root=/dev/ram0 initrd=NASLite.02 quiet

LABEL i
KERNEL NASLite.01
APPEND rw root=/dev/ram0 initrd=NASLite.03 quiet

LABEL m
KERNEL memtest

Thanks,
Tom

on normal naslite you would add it after

APPEND rw root=/dev/ram0 initrd=NASLite.02 quiet

well i think you would - try it after that if that works fine - if not try it after the same command lower down - or both of them - sorry to be vague but i dont run m2 and its a bit different in the cfg file

failing that drop tony or ralph a mail - all the experts seem to be away at the moment
