I'm building a NL server for a friend, I want to use the mirror feature, to copy my data to his server, I'm using a SATA 1TB internal drive, his is a 1TB USB External. From what I read I can mirror to a local drive, to a USB drive. I'm assuming that I can then take this drive to his server and have him use it as his primary data drive.

Each server will have a different serial # will the new server accept a mirror from another server?
do I need to format and mount the USB drive before I start the mirror, and just for my info. does it mirror the whole drive, partition and all or does it just xfer all of the files?

Thanks for helping a newb!

The mirror information is stored on the destination drive (from memory) so I think that it would have to be mounted and formatted as you have already said.

USB mirroring may be cripplingly slow however (compared to fitting both drives into the PC).
