NASLite Network Attached Storage

The image that I downloaded is 1.7 MB, but all the floppies I've seen are 1.44 MB. What gives?

its a special format that allows you to write 1.7mb to a 1.44 floppy.
all the files would not fit on a 1.44 floppy.

Best way is to boot in to knoppix and do the building of the disks there.

or purchase the FD creator on this website.

I have been trying to get rawwrite to write the img file
to a floppy. It reports back that it is successful.

But....(always a but), when you try and boot off of it,
it has trouble it boots fine until it reaches a certain point.
There is a NET4 (command?) line that reports:
Unix domain sockets 1.0/smp for Linux Net4.0.
end_request: I/O error, dev 02:3c (floppy), sector 1614
" " " " " " , sector 1615
, sector 1614
, sector 1615
RAMDISK: Couldn't find find valid RAM disk image starting at 803.
VFS: Insert root floppy and press ENTER. (I press enter - floppy is in a:)
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 02:3c.

Apparently, RAWWRITE, writes up to a certain point,
probably 1.44mb, and quits.

I paid (unfortunately for me) for the 19 dollar utility to
create the free image you downloaded.

Not to start a big deal... but it would seem Server Elements
would want its free program more easily
distributable by at least directing people where to obtain a
1.77 floppy disk image creator for XP users. It must exist.

I like the program, I just wish I would have spent my money
on the REAL one. But, my web browsing English skills are not
adequate enough and I made a mistake.

It is true that I will probaly buy the program for the discounted
price of 16 odd dollars. So, I'll end up spending about 10 more
dollars then if my reading skills had been better.

If you have found a solution, PLEASE post it! That would
be great. I am still searching. Or, you can pay the 24.95 and
get the real deal, which has better features (as it should) than
the free version.

I'm not going to rehash a topic that was hammered to death nearly 2 years ago, however anyone wishing to use the search feature of the forum here will find the specifics of Windows 2000 and greater making 1.77meg floppies.

Or, for those of you who don't, Windows 2000 and greater is restricted by Windows, (not the hardware) and cannot write anything greater than a 1.6m format. After numerous requests, we created the Floppy disk creator to help Windows only people (with no linux knowledge) make the "free" floppies.

It is well worth paying the price to get the floppy creator CD, it saves a lot of time and trouble for those (like me) who aren't exactly Linux gurus. I have been running the 'free'version for over a year at work. I feel that the $19 is small recompense to the team working on this excellent product. I'm now just waiting for Version 2 to be released

If you were my employee Kevlaur, and you waste a day on my payroll trying to figure out how to make a NASLite floppy, we’ll probably have a discussion about your future plans. That would be especially true knowing that the tool designed to help you make that floppy is only $20.

To your credit, the free naslite dload page mentions
that you haven't found a way to create the floppy in Windows.

When all is said and done, I will probably by the + version.
The free works pretty well with my old PB 233MMX.
