Yesterday, I decided to move a 50+ gig folder from Disk-1 on my NAS to Disk-2, and so did a drag-and-drop of the folder by way of a Windoze XP Pro machine. I then opened the thus-created folder on Disk-2 to watch the progression of folders appearing in there on Disk-2. It was taking hours to do, so I left the machine up overnight to complete the task.

I got up the next morning and found that the fuel-gauge on the transfer dialog-box had gotten about 75% to 80% done... but then there was another dialog box stating something to the effect that it couldn't access folder //myNAS/Disk-2/Yadda/Yadda Yadda, where Yadda Yadda was the name of the folder currently being transferred.

And the folder //myNAS/Disk-2/Yadda/ was empty.

I quit the copy, refreshed the window, and still no files. I went back "up" one level on Disk2, right-clicked Yadda and selected properties, and was told that the folder contained 0 bytes. I then dragged and dropped one of the folders in //myNAS/Disk-1/Yadda/ into the folder, and it complained that the folder //myNAS/Disk-2/Blahblah already existed...

I've exitted both windows and came back in again. It still shows //myNAS/Disk-2/Yadda/ as empty, with 0 bytes.

I have just now pulled up the folder //myNAS/Disk-2/Yadda/ from my Windoze 98SE machine, and I get the same results there: Empty folder, 0 bytes.

What happened, and what can I do about it?

Incidentally, the relevant lines (plus slightly more from in front of it) from the SMB/CIFS Server Log are:

This is with NASlite SMB, BTW...

Well, I finally broke down and issued a reboot command. On startup, NASlite scanned the two disks, and then Disk-2 came up unmountable. I have initiated another reboot and will see how it goes... :|

Wish me luck...

After alot of hair-pulling, and then shuffling the drives to another, better-specc'ed machine...

Well, long story short, I fixed the machine via the RIPLinux (Recovery Is Possible Linux) live-CD, and invoking
Code:
e2fsck -t /dev/hdb1

Oddly enough, I got the instructions for this from a thread I started, and finished, many moons ago, describing how I'd done it the last time:

http://www.serverelements.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1148&highlight=uncorrectableerror&sid=0acf50ecc3b51f29ca3237d24d3e2473

Clearly, it had been long enough that I'd forgotten it all...

But then, last time it had been a power outage, this time it was just... a mass copy that inexplicably tripped over itself... :-/
