NASLite Network Attached Storage

I am trying to make a Naslite bootable 1.7Mb floppy using Dcopy 2.8. I have followed the instructions in this thread:

but I just get the error message: "Can't read and write disk image at the same time"

Any help would be most appreciated.

Can you tell us the exact DCOPY command line(s) you typed.

copy of the reply I sent to crawf1982, answering a similar request via PM:
I suspect you are starting DCOPY from a floppy from which you booted, if my suspect is right, you simply cannot do it.
You need one of the following:
1) Boot DOS from ANOTHER media (with DCOPY on it) and run it from there
2) 2 floppy drives A: and B:
3) Find a way to boot to a DOS in a Ramdrive (Grub4dos might be the right solution)

Also where do you store the downloaded naslite image?

If you cannot / don't want to install DOS on HD, you can either make a bootable CD or a bootable USB stick with it.

I have DCopy on the root of drive C

I have NASLNF.IMG on the root of drive E (HDD)

I have a blank floppy in drive A

I open up a DOS Prompt window

I run DCopy

I type:

DCOPY E:\NASLNFS.IMG A:/F1722/S/V

If you're using Windows XP, 2K, NT 4, or Win2003 just opening up a DOS prompt window is NOT the same as booting to DOS.

The link you provided above to the other forum message tells you that as fact number 1.

You will have to boot to DOS in order for it to work.

I have had the same result using this method:

Plugged in 2 floppies

Booted to DOS from the A drive

Took the boot disk out of the A drive and replaced it with a blank formatted floppy

Put a floppy containing DCopy in the B drive

Put a CD in containing the naslite image in the D drive

Ran DCopy from the B drive

Typed DCOPY D:\NASLNFS.IMG A:/F:1722/S/V

Got the same error message as before.

I also tried to format the floppy in the B drive to 1.44 but the command didn't seem to work

Hmmm, it seems to me that something is not right in the procedure you did.
Try this:
1) Get a DOS 7.1 boot floppy image, like the one you can download here:

2) Double click on the Winimage self extracting exe to make the floppy in drive A:
3) Open the floppy in explorer and copy to it dcopy.exe
4) Re-boot the computer from A:
5) Make sure that the B: drive is functional, by inserting in it a floppy and formatting it or copying some files to it with normal DOS commands, if not, check that in the BIOS you have the second floppy listed
6) Put a CD in containing the naslite image in the D drive
7) Make sure you can access the drive, for example issue a dir D: command
8) Enter the command A:\DCOPY.EXE DCOPY B: /F:1440 /FO /V
9) Enter the command A:\DCOPY.EXE D:\NASLNFS.IMG B: /F:1722/S/V
10) Please also note that there is a space in the above lines between B: and /F:
